 धर्मः प्रोज्झितकैतवोऽत्र परमो निर्मत्सराणां सतां ।

वेद्यं वास्तवमत्र वस्तु शिवदं तापत्रयोन्मूलनम् ।
श्रीमद्‍भागवते महामुनिकृते किं वा परैरीश्वरः ।
सद्यो हृद्यवरुध्यतेऽत्र कृतिभिः शुश्रूषुभिः तत् क्षणात् ॥ २ ॥

यह श्लोक श्रीमद्भागवतम (1.1.2) के सार और उद्देश्य को वर्णित करता है:

  1. कपट का निषेध: श्रीमद्भागवतम किसी भी प्रकार के कपटपूर्ण या भ्रामक सिद्धांतों (कैतव) से रहित है। यह सर्वोच्च धर्म (परमो धर्म) पर केंद्रित है, जो उन निर्मल हृदय वाले लोगों (निर्मत्सराणां सतां) के लिए है जो द्वेष से मुक्त हैं।

  2. परम वास्तविकता का प्रकटीकरण: यह श्लोक घोषणा करता है कि श्रीमद्भागवतम परम वास्तविकता (वास्तवम वस्तु) को प्रकट करता है, जो कल्याणकारी (शिवदं) है और तीनों प्रकार के कष्टों (तापत्रय) को जड़ से समाप्त करता है।
